What is the difference between a YMS and a WMS?

A yard management system (YMS) runs truck visits outside the warehouse — gate capture, yard map, dock assignment, dwell, and gate-out closeout. A warehouse management system (WMS) manages inventory and tasks inside the building. They complement each other; the YMS hands off dock-ready signals.

Can a WMS replace a yard management system?

For low-volume sites with minimal staging, a WMS yard tab may suffice. Gate-heavy yards with carrier self-service, live maps, and ERP closeout usually need a dedicated YMS layer that owns the full visit record.

How does a TMS fit with YMS and WMS?
